A clear case of how proper painting restoration can increase the value of a painting many times over - not in the usual sense of improving the appearance or stabilising physical materials, but in uncovering the evidence of a more famous hand having painted the picture.

  1. Mm...very interesting. It is just exhilerating sometimes when little details lead to amazing discoveries..and in this case a master's painting. Also, it is discoveries like this which sparks off public interest and inquiry into the value, methods and processes of conservation and restoration...

  2. Another painting uncovered during conservation. This time it is an early work of Raphael (not the Ninja Turtle, but the Italian Renaissance Master) when he was just 16 years of age, which goes to show how much recognition he had been accorded then for his painting to have been totally painted over!
